Washington Informer “The Singer,” by Maurice G. Fitzgerald, is one of more than 30 photographs on display in the “28 Exposures” exhibit at the Art Institute of Washington. The exhibit will run until Thurs., May 28. Photo by Maurice G. Fitzgerald

More than 30 original landscape and portrait photographs in black and white and in color can be seen in an exhibition entitled “28 Exposures” at the Art Institute of Washington in Arlington, Va. Victor Holt and Maurice Fitzgerald, both Washington Informer photographers, have works included in the exhibit.

The exhibition is the third annual juried members’ exhibit organized by The Exposure Group, an African American photographers association in Washington, D.C. Its members include portrait artists, photojournalists, documentary photographers, and fine artists who work as freelancers.

Holt’s black and white photograph “Shades” entices the viewer to look behind the dark glasses of the subject and imagine what he might be thinking.

Fitzgerald’s black and white photograph “The Singer,” not only shows the viewer the emotional expression of a singer, but allows the mind’s eye to imagine the soulful intensity of reaching a harmonic note.

Denise Rolark Barnes, publisher of The Informer, said, while viewing the exhibit, “For someone like me who has knowledge of some of these photographers and has worked with Victor and Maurice on a weekly basis, it gives me the opportunity to see how they can make the ordinary extraordinary. It’s like that moment you exhale, when you look at a child, or a park, or a boulder, or a singer and see the artistic creativity in them.”

Some of the other photographers included in the exhibition are Lillie Lewis-Garrett, Edward Savwoir, Milton Williams, Lisa Fanning, Cleve Bryant and Sharon Farmer, who was the first African American female photographer to work at the White House during the Clinton presidency.

“The head of our photography department has a close relationship with The Exposure Group. She encourages the students to meet and talk to the photographers. The students get really excited and inspired when they meet photographers whose names they recognize,” said Tiffany Young, public relations coordinator for The Art Institute of Washington.

The exhibition “28 Exposures” runs through May 28. For more information call The Art Institute of Washington at 703 358 9550.

Revlon ! Matte

The ridiculous way Price line tape up all their products so they look like bargain bin treats rather than full priced stock. It took me 20 minutes to scrub the sticky residue off my Revlon Matte Eye shadow. Grr.

Revlon Matte Eye shadow in Riviera Blue and Revlon Matte Kohl Eye liner in Midnight Blue. I've tried channeling Beau Garrett in this picture, but fail to pull off the required sexiness.

A beauty wardrobe. While fashion lovers may want all their designer shirts and skirts hanging from luxe hangers, I want all my beauty products to be contained in a way that I know what I have and where it is. Have you ever bought something that you didn't think you had only to find that you do in fact have it? I do that. I now have 3 MAC 266 angle brushes. It's not even a helpful brush to have multiples of!

This new from 217 Blending Brush from MAC Cosmetics. Perfect balance of precision and fluffiness.

Dry Skin Care at Your Home

beauty product

As part of our At Home Skin Care Regimes series, I have listed below some products that are suitable for Normal to Dry Skin Types. You don't have to use all of the products from the list but the minimum required would be a Cleanser and a Moisturiser.

1. Cleanser

If you have a mildly dry, probably more dehydrated skin, a great easy to use cleanser is the Demagogic Special Cleansing Gel. Simply pour a 10 pence piece sized amount into the palm of one hand then mix with a small amount of water until a good lather is produced and then massage over the whole face and neck avoiding the eyes. Rinse off with warm water. If your skin is very dry or if you prefer not to use water on your skin, then the Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution is ideal for you. Pour a 10 pence piece amount into one hand mix product between your two hands and then massage over the whole face and neck. You can remove by rinsing off with water, damp cotton wool or you can even tissue off if you prefer. I always advise to cleanse twice with any product to make sure that your skin has been thoroughly cleansed especially at the end of the day when make-up has usually been worn.

Use each morning and evening.

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (500ml)

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (250ml)

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (50ml)

Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution (500ml)

Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution (250ml)

Dermalogica Essential Cleansing Solution (50ml)

2. Exfoliant

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant is perfect for dry skin but take care if your skin is sensitive. If you are unsure always try a sample first and do a patch test before using over the whole face. This product contains alpha and beta hydroxy acids which will give your skin a deeper exfoliation and these ingredients will also help to speed up skin cell renewal and turnover rates. This will mean your skin will look brighter, smoother and healthier. Any other products used on the skin afterwards will penetrate much easier and will therefore be more effective.Use like you would a masque taking care around the eyes and leave on for 10-15 minutes. You may feel some tingling or a slight stinging which is the hydroxy acids working through your skin. Remove by rinsing with water or wiping with damp cotton wool.

Use once or twice a week

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant (75ml)

3. Masque

If your skin is mildly dry/dehydrated Demagogical Skin Hydrating Masque would be suitable for you. It has a refreshing oil free gel texture which will restore suppleness and reduce fine dehydration lines. It contains many soothing, calming and anti-inflammatory botanical extracts and a whole range of vitamins to nourish and replenish. This masque works really well around the eye area because of its texture and soothing qualities, and can be used specifically as an eye masque.

Use once or twice a week, probably in the evening after cleansing and/or exfoliating.

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque (75ml)

4. Toner

I would recommend the Demagogic Multi-Active Toner for a normal skin type. You would use after cleansing by spritzing over the whole face and neck with 4-5 pumps. You may feel a slight tingle and it will feel wonderfully refreshing. Don't forget you can use the toner throughout the day over make-up if your skin feels tight, dehydrated or just to cool you down.

Use each morning and evening after cleansing.

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner (250ml)

Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner (50ml)

5. Booster

If you don't want to use a moisturiser that is too rich but still want your skin to be effectively nourished and hydrated then the Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster will do just that. This contains many concentrated ingredients, the main one being hyaluronic acid to intensively hydrate, smooth fine lines and restore the moisture balance of your skin. It has a serum like texture and 7-10 drops is enough for the whole face and neck. This can be used around the eye area.

Use each morning and evening after toning.

Available Sizes:

Demagogic Skin Hydrating Booster (30ml)

6. Eye Cream

Demagogical Total Eye Care is great to smooth and retexturise the delicate eye area helping to diminish fine, dry lines. It will also disguise any darkness as it contains optical light diffusing ingredients. Your eye area will also be protected from ultra violet light as it contains a chemical free SPF 15. Gently press around the eye area until evenly blended into the skin.

Use each morning after toning/booster.

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Total Eye Care SPF 15 (15ml)

7. Moisturizers

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream is one of our most popular moisturisers. It has a lovely medium weight texture that will maintain your skin's moisture balance while improving its texture. It will also help to smooth any fine lines and improve your skins elasticity. Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream contains a whole host of anti-oxidant vitamins to fight free radicals to help prevent skin ageing.

Use each morning and evening after applying the eye cream.

Available Sizes:

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream (100ml)

Dermalogica Skin Smoothing Cream (50ml)

Dermalogica Tri-Active Cleanse is a triple-active concentrated cleanser that improves surface clarity, lifts dulling skin cells and prepares skin for maximum penetration of our unique complex of enzymes, peptides and active brighteners. Skin is left feeling ultra clean and conditioned. Is is designed for people with hyper-pigmentation or uneven skin tone and is part of the new Dermalogica Chroma White TRx range of skin brightening products from Dermalogica.

Beautyfix 2: Exuviance Rejuvenating Treatment Masque

A few months ago, my husband treated me to a professional facial. During the service, I begged for advice on how to handle my pregnancy-induced jawline breakouts... that for some reason hadn't gone away even after I had the baby! Her advice to me was short and sweet, I needed to add a good peel to my regimen. For that reason, I was especially excited to find this home peel tucked in the Beautyfix kit for the Spring season. The Exuviance Rejuvenating Treatment Masque (a retail value of $26) is actually intended to be an anti-aging mask, but it's powerful blend of Alpha and Polyhydroxy acids (AHA/PHA) and Gluconolactone also help with clarity and reduction of pore size. After a few uses, the left side of my face--previously a bumpy, pimply mess--is now baby-smooth with only some mild scarring left from cystic acne. The right side of my face is still a work in progress, but I've noticed much improvement since starting to use this product!

Fruits can give boost to your skin

Here are a list of beauty fruits that can give your skin a boost. Give it a try and your skin will thank you for them

Beauty Fruit 1: Apples

Apples are a great conditioner and toner for your skin. They have amazing skin-healing powers and have been used as a beauty aid for centuries. Add a cup of apple juice to your bath to cleanse and soften your skin. The juice of apple can be used as a breathe freshener too. Apple juice when applied to your hair scalp can prevent dandruff. Use as a final rinse after shampooing your hair. Also, remember, apples are filled with pectin - essential for fighting the dreaded acne

Beauty Fruit 2: Lemons

A classic home beauty ingredient. Lemons are used to cleanse and freshen the skin and hair. Use lemon slices to soften rough skin spots such as elbows and heels. Lemon slices also help deodorize and mix a few teaspoons of lemon juice in your bath and you will feel fresh the whole day. Lemon juice can be added to your favourite cleanser or shampoo to refresh and tone your scalp. It also helps prevent dandruff. Lemon rinds can be rubbed on to scars as it aids healing. Lemon is a ,natural bleach it can help to fade out dark spots and acne scars too

Beauty Fruit 3: Bananasbeauty

Banana is a great emollient for your skin and hair. They are rich in protein and natural fats and can be used on all skin types. An easy facemask that will make your skin supple is to apply mashed banana all over your skin and leave it on for 2o minutes, rinse off with warm water and moisturize after that. Mashed banana also makes a wonderful hair conditioner when mixed with a 1 tablespoon of honey. Perfect for keeping hair beautiful even if dyed regularly

Beauty Fruit 4: Pineappleskin

Like papaya, pineapples are great skin softeners, which cleanses and rejuvenates dull and dry skin. Use pineapple slices on rough skin spots like knees, elbows, and heels. Use a slice of pineapple as you would a sponge or loofah to scrub your body in the bath or shower.

Beauty Fruit 5: Papaya

Papaya- rich in papain enzyme and Vitamin A, is the best treatment for exfoliating your skin. For having a fresh and glowing skin apply mashed papaya and 3 teaspoons of aloe vera gel and massage all over your body monthly. Leave on your skin for no more than five minutes and rinse thoroughly. Use it with caution for the first time as it may sometimes irritate sensitive skin.

Beauty Fruit 6: Peachesbeauty

Peaches are highly emollient and perfect for dry skin types. Mash a fresh peach and combine with a tablespoon of plain yogurt to make a smooth paste. Apply on the skin and leave it on for 20 mins and then rinse off with warm water. Your skin will feel moisturized and supple to the touch.

So, why not start munching on all these healthy fruits and leave some to be applied on your skin too. They are scrumptious and oh so irresistible. They can satisfy your sweet tooth and none of the calories!

Ere Perez Natural Macadamia Oil Lip Colours & Rosehip Oil Lipbars

Following the success of its original and the only natural rosehip oil "nude" Lipbar, Ere Perez Natural Cosmetics has added a gorgeous collection of five new nourishing Lipbars and Lip Colours to its three- step beauty range of simple, practical and healthy makeup. Ere Perez Natural Lipbars and Lip Colours are not only beautiful, they also give protection from the sun and are totally vegan! Ere Perez Lipbars and Lip Colours are made with natural ingredients, including rosehip and macadamia oils and approved by Cruelty Free. Children trying out mummy's lipsticks can also do so safely because they're natural! The new collection comprises four tinted "Lipbars" (a nourishing, softening and glossy cross between a lipsalve and lipstick) and two moisturising "Lip Colours" (same consistency as a regular glossy lipstick).

Enriched with Vitamin E and with Rosehip Oil's healing and anti-aging properties, lips will be healthy and sexy. The colours of the Lipbar collection are so subtle they're hardly there, but once applied really lift the lips to add a delicate, natural-looking touch of colour.

- LOVE: is almost clear with a slight pinky tint and a lovely edible smell!

- LIFE: has a reddish tint - a great tone for brighter and sexier natural winter looks.

- HOPE: has a hint of purple, a versatile colour that looks great in all skin tones. This lippy will be donating funds to "Mision

Mexico", giving even more HOPE to the children.

Ere Perez's new Lip Colours (thicker and creamier than the Lipbars) are Vegan, the two only tones are made from natural

macadamia oil and enriched with Vitamin E.

The two beautiful colours moisten, protect with SPF15 and help heal the lip skin. They are designed to suit every skin tone, so

there's no need to spend ages choosing the right shade. YOU and ME are tones specially made to achieve a natural looking

Avon True Pore-Fection

Details of product

This is a brand new product from Avon, and I first tried it in a trial size packet given to me by my Avon Rep. I liked it so much I bought the cleanser and I haven't stopped using it. I am a 33 year old with acne, and this product has really helped my skin clear up, and I love the clean tingly feeling when I wash my face. I just love the creamy lather, and a little really goes a long way. I've used the product for over a month, and I saw results with the first usage. I used to have to reapply my face powder at least twice per day, but since I've been washing with True Pore-Fection I only apply powder once in the morning and I don't have to reapply at all during the day. I love that I haven't had to wear too much powder and my skin looks so good. I plan on buying the mask and the toner as well. I have tried other products that claim to reduce the look of pores, but they never do what they claim. True Pore-fection not only reduces the look of pores, it really keeps the oil under control.

Cleanses skin leaving a tingling and clean feeling. Matte skin lasts all day.

No draw backs, this is an excellent product.

Allergenics Steroid Free Intensive Care Ointment

Allergenics Steroid Free Intensive Care Ointment

Details of the Product

Though it claims to be "a naturally effective emollient suitable for soothing and moisturising chapped skin conditions including reddened and sensitive dry areas associated with eczema and dermatitis" I found it increased itching on patches of eczema. However, I also found it to be a wonderful facial cream for my very dry and sensitive skin. It is a cream with a high content in natural oils, but it spreads very lightly, is invisible and doesn't shine like the night creams and fat creams I used before. No perfume. No preservatives.

Use as an invisible day cream fot the very dry skin in cold winters

Skin Care Review: 3lab perfect c serum

Skin Care Review: 3lab perfect c serum

Details of the product
this is the best vitamin c serum on the market, hands down. within 3 days of using it, I got so many questions and compliments about how great my skin looked and "what did I do"....!!! I have tried several others and find they all do make my skin exfoliate in a great way, but this one really makes skin taut and glow. the glow factor is major here. The packagin is very good, too- understated. It smells a little citrus-like, the way most of them do. Also, don't get near your eyes... It works. The only draw back is that you have to wait for it to dry if you have long hair, before going to bed. other than that it is perfect-o

i love this sooooo much... it is really fantastic. the best available.
